About the Artist


An art professional and teacher, Lewton earned a B.A. in Art Education from Wayne State University (Detroit MI) in 1951.
.Later she completed a Masters Degree in Design/Crafts at the same institution.  Lewton taught pottery, jewelry making and design at Cass Technical High School before returning to her first love - painting­-
after retirement.

She has exhibited at a number of galleries throughout her career. Early on her work was shown at Wayne State University, the Grand Rapids Art Museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Scarab Club, Arts Extended and the Detroit Artist's market.

During her Florida years she exhibited at the Manatee Council for the Arts, the Sarasota Art Association, the Manatee Art League, Long Boat Key Art Gallery, Florida's Craftsmen Gallery, and Art Forms Gallery.

Since her return to Michigan she has exhibited at the Crooked Tree Art Gallery (Petoskey), The Art Show at the Dog Show (Wichita, KS), the Besser Museum (Alpena), the Gaylord Council for the Arts, and the Margaret Harwell Art Museum (Poplar Bluff, MO).
. In addition, Lewton has shown work at the Kirtland Warbler Festival, Kirtland Community College, the West Branch Fourth Street Gallery, the Saginaw Township State of the Arts, the West Branch Frame Shop and Gallery, Bay City's Studio 23, the Midland Center for the Arts, the Saginaw Art Museum, and the Toledo Art Museum (Ohio).

Lewton has received numerous awards -- including Honorable Mentions, Best in Show and purchase awards.  In addition, she has participated in many group and solo exhibits.
